This Trench coat is made from the famous OJJ- piece dyed 11oz ten c fabric. 
A coat to wear whilst driving a car, and since almost all the first cars were open models, these original coats were long, cumbersome and very much about protection from the elements. As cars gained windscreens, roofs and windows, and heating, the importance of protection was diminished and the coats became shorter and slimmer, as they were no longer worn over other bulky, warm clothes. The hidden button closing, designed to not snag the safety belt, is perhaps now the only «car-related» detail on the contemporary car coat.
