Kites flourished as a pastime during the Edo period. Authentic kites were made of sturdy Japanese paper with warrior paintings—called "mushae." Kites are also considered auspicious, flown to pray for children's growth, career advancement, and good health. This inlay-knitted shirt is made from aged cotton on a loopwheel machine. The cotton is slowly matured in a temperature-controlled room for 30 to 50 days to restore its plump, fluffy texture. Spun and knitted on a vintage machine in Wakayama, the fabric produces just 48cm per hour—resulting in a soft, almost moist material that is thick yet minimally stretched. Despite being loopwheeled, it features split sides for a considered silhouette.
