Composed from various wood blocks using mud resist printing and overdyed in natural indigo. This rug is made from organic Kala cotton and handwoven in Kutch. Kala cotton is indigenous to Kachchh and by default organic, as farmers do not use pesticides or synthetic fertilizers—it is a purely rain-fed crop with high tolerance for disease and pests. Natural indigo is dyed using a 100% fructose-based fermentation process. The block print is inspired by Mark Rothko's revolutionary paintings, with 11.11 / eleven eleven using the rug as an art canvas—applying a clever overlay of block and resist-block prints, a technique used for Ajrakh printing.
